GW Contamination-Logan City Environmental Department would like to ask that residents participating in the GreenWaste programs be sensitive to what materials are being put in the Green containers and city drop-sites. Pet waste, planter pots, sticker labels, plastic plant description labels, rocks, dirt, sod, treated wood & plastic bags are all examples of things that should not go in the GreenWaste containers.   Please be careful when raking up yard waste from spring that collected over the winter and separate out the garbage.  There have been toys, bags, candy wrappers, & string that have been placed in the containers.  Garbage that is mixed in with the GreenWaste may contaminate whole loads.  Acceptable Green Waste consists of grass, leaves, clean hay and straw, branches, shrubs, and garden waste.

Thank you for your consideration.  For more information about the Green Waste Facility or compost and wood chip products, please call the Logan Landfill at 750-9981.  For questions about your local Green Waste drop-site center or for information about the Curbside Green Waste program, please call the Environmental Department at 716-9755.

Spring 2009

BYOB-Logan City Environmental Department is sponsoring a Bring Your Own Bag Campaign to encourage Cache County residents to start using reusable bags at the grocery store (and other retail shops) instead of plastic bags.  If your pledge to use reusable bags, Logan City will give you your first bag for no charge.  Come in to our department to receive your free bag or look for us at different events this year.  Call 716-9771 for more information.

For Logan City residents, click here for information about the replace 8 and save CFL pledge.

March 27, 2009

The Logan City Environmental Department would like to announce a new program that began March 23, 2009 at the Household Hazardous Waste Facility.  As many residents already know, most household hazardous waste is taken for no charge at the facility and accepted Monday-Saturday during business hours.  Now, all residents can participate in a household hazardous waste REuse program.  Until recently, all household hazardous waste that came into the facility was either recycled or incinerated.  Any Cache County resident can now come down to the facility located at the landfill and take (at no charge) certain unused or partially used household products that have been donated to the facility.  Availability will be based on whether the persons donating the waste authorized reuse of the products.  Customers picking up products for reuse must fill out a liability waiver.  We will be diverting items such as paint, pesticides, spa chemicals and other household cleaners, etc. out of the waste stream to be used for the purpose intended instead of being so wasteful.  Please call our Household Hazardous Waste Facility at 435-713-6686 for more information.
