Chief Meaker began his fire service career in 1971 as a volunteer firefighter with the Arcade Fire District. After a year with Arcade, he went to work with the Citrus Heights Fire District in 1972 and worked his way up through the ranks. Chief Meaker spent eight (8) years as a company officer, six (6) as a battalion chief, and five (5) years as an Operations assistant chief for the Sacramento County Fire Protection District (successor to Citrus Heights). Chief Meaker became Fire Chief of the Elk Grove Community Services District Fire Department in July of 1997. After six years as fire chief in Elk Grove and thirty years of California fire service experience, Chief Meaker retired in 2003 and moved to Logan to assume duties as our fire chief.
Chief Meaker has been the recipient of numerous awards throughout his career including: Veterans of Foreign Wars Outstanding Community Service Award, 1980-81; Mercy San Juan Hospital Engine Company of the Year, 1985; Chamber of Commerce Commendation for Leadership, 1998; and Elk Grove’s “Man of the Year,” 2000. Chief Meaker has an AA degree in Fire Technology, a bachelor’s degree in Journalism, a Masters degree in Public Administration. He is also a certified Chief Officer with the State of California and has received Chief Fire Officer designation from the International Commission for Chief Fire Officers.
