Boulevard Trail Ribbon Cutting

Boulevard trail ribbon cuttingA public ribbon cutting ceremony was held on October 21, 2009 to celebrate the completion of the Boulevard Trail project under sunny skies and a picture-perfect autumn backdrop of Cache Valley.

The ceremony included remarks by Boulevard residents Bruce Crane, Amy Hochberg, and Brooke Whiting; Mark Lunt, project supporter; Jeff Gilbert, Cache Metropolitan Planning Organization, and Logan Mayor Randy Watts.  The Boulevard Trail project is a result of citizen input as reflected in the City's 2006 Parks, Recreation, Trails, and Open Space Master Plan.  Construction of the Boulevard Trail project began in 2007.

The Boulevard Trail project focused primarily on the south side of the Boulevard and was composed of two parts, east and west sections.  The first section to start was the east section.  The scope of the east section was from approximately 550 East to 450 East.  The east section included a new multipurpose walkway, a re-designed on-street parking area, park strip, landscaping, decorative safety fencing, and a sprinkler system. It was funded in part by the City of Logan Public Works Department, with project design work by Architectural Design West of Logan, and construction in part by Tom Pitcher Construction, Inc. of Smithfield, UT, and Canyon Landscaping of Providence, UT.

Boulevard TrailThe west section of the Boulevard Trail was designed by BIO-WEST, Inc. of Logan with construction engineering by Civil Science of Lehi, UT, general contractor services by Staker/Parson Companies of Smithfield, UT, with assistance from Logan City Public Works and Logan Light and Power.  The west section included partial re-construction of the Boulevard roadway, removal of the old guardrail, a new multipurpose walkway, park strip, landscaping, sprinkler systems, benches, decorative safety fencing, replacement and installation of new curb cuts for bike/pedestrian crosswalks, and decorative coach lighting.

In addition to funding by the City of Logan, the Boulevard Trail project was also funded in part by Boulevard resident donations for the decorative coach lighting, a generous grant from the Cache County Recreation, Arts, Parks, and Zoo (RAPZ) tax fund, and federal Transportation Enhancement matching funds from the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT).

The Logan Parks and Recreation Department wishes to express its appreciation to all who were able to attend the event and to thank the Cache Chamber of Commerce and Boulevard residents for their participation in the ribbon cutting ceremony.
