Litter Free Logan

Logan Parks and Recreation Department would like to encourage all citizens to take pride in our community by keeping Logan, a place we call home, Litter-Free!

Community service groups have stenciled garbage cans throughout the city with the Litter-Free Logan logo.

City of Logan garbage trucks have a logo sticker as a visual reminder for citizens to keep Logan litter free.

All elementary schools in Logan School District were invited to participate in a "Clean Up Your School Contest" in May 2002. Ellis School took 2nd Place and Woodruff School (the cat face) took 1st Place.

Anti-Litter Campaign

Losers Litter. This is the motto of the Logan Parks and Recreation Department anti-litter campaign. It is to remind people that we not only want to clean up our valley, but that we also want to keep it that way. By educating the public about this growing problem, we hope to increase their awareness about it.

We will start by fitting an anti-littering curriculum in with the ongoing Natural Resources and Recycling lesson plan that is taught to all 4th and 5th graders in the Logan City School District and the Cache County School District. The curriculum already teaches the kids about four important topics in our community including garbage, landfill, recycling, natural resources, and compost. By including anti-litter we hope to expand their range of knowledge. And as we always hear, 'Knowledge is power', and the power to change our community for the better is fantastic. As another approach, we have also started to stencil the motto, 'Litter-Free Logan' on the 60 and 90 gallon "black beauty" trash cans all over the city, to be a constant reminder to keep our city clean.

The Logan High School TEC class will be helping out, by doing 30-second commercials under the supervision of Scott Harris, the Logan High TEC teacher. Dick Broun and Sher Lisonbee, who have worked in Los Angles for around 30 years doing advertising for everything from Adidas to Kawasaki motorcycles, will also be there to help out. In having the class do the 30-second spots, it will give people a teens eye view of littering and hopefully will catch the interest of teens as well as grown-ups.

With all these great ideas on how to promote our anti-litter campaign, we hope that the community will see just how important this topic is and join us in our pursuit of a Litter-Free Logan.

The Environmental Division has helped to team up with the Parks and Recreation Department to help promote the Litter-Free Logan campaign. Recycling and the Anti-Litter program make a perfect match for each other.

We would like to thank the community volunteers who have helped in this campaign. We have received great help from volunteers who have stenciled the Litter-Free Logan logo onto the Black Beauty garbage containers at some of the Logan resident’s homes. This will serve as a reminder to everyone to help keep garbage in it’s place.

In the past, Logan City Environmental Division has taught a great recycling education program to the fifth grade classes of Cache Valley. The recycle program teaches students about how much garbage is collected in Cache County on a daily basis, and why it’s important to save our natural resources and our Landfill by recycling. The students learned that the landfill only has about 20 more years before it will close, and through Cache Valley’s recycling efforts, we will add more time to the landfill. Students learned the proper method of disposal for these recyclable materials, as well as where the closest recycling drop-site is to their home. This year they will be expanding their program to talk about Anti-Litter as well. This year’s program will also focus on the proper disposal of garbage, and why we need to keep our roads, lakes, rivers, and parks litter-free.

Logan City’s mission statement is to keep Logan City a place everyone would want to call home, and we can all help do that through recycling and keeping Cache County litter-free.
